An ultrasonic water flow meter is a device that uses the measurement of water flow rate by the propagation of sound waves. It works by sending ultrasonic signals between sensors placed on or within the pipe. There are two main kinds:  transit-time flow meters , which count the difference in signal travel times between upstream and downstream directions, and  Doppler flow meters , which detect shifts in frequency caused by moving particles or bubbles within water. These meters have no invasive features, a very high degree of accuracy, and no distortion in the flow. They are particularly excellent for applications requiring zero disruption to the flow.
