Wytchwood is an excellent choice for fans of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing

It will be released on December 9th as an indie fantasy crafting game in which players take on the role of a witch, and it will be released tomorrow. Relaxing games that do not include combat but instead emphasize other aspects of gameplay such as crafting, storytelling, and exploration have become increasingly popular in recent years, and this is one that fans should keep their eyes peeled for in the future.

In 2016, the game Stardew Valley demonstrated this with its release, and it would go on to become one of the most popular indie titles on the market in the following years. And, last year, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game for the Nintendo Switch, introduced a slew of crafting elements to a franchise that was already focused on gathering and selling resources. Despite the fact that Wytchwood is not a particularly long game, it should appeal to players who enjoy games such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Stardew Valley for the same reasons.

What exactly is Wytchwood?
Wytchwood is a crafting-based adventure game set in a gothic fantasy world that has been meticulously pieced together with beautiful storybook art. As a result of losing her memories and conversing with a talking goat, the witch must collect a series of souls from nearby creatures such as a snake, a bear, and a leech in order to bring the sleeping maiden back to life. In Wytchwood, crafting is presented in the form of puzzles, which are also used to complete quests. Following the completion of the initial tasks from the goat, the witch ventures out into nearby areas such as a swamp, forest, and fields in search of the souls she seeks. When traveling through New Horizons animals have the opportunity to complete a variety of do-it-yourself projects.

One task leads to another, and it is common for a request to craft or fetch an item from someone else to be followed by a request to craft or fetch an item from someone else who also requires an item to be crafted or returned to them. In the world of Wytchwood, there are an abundance of ingredients, ranging from naturally occurring mushrooms, grasses, and other plants to items obtained by capturing creatures, such as pixie dust from fairies and frog slime from frogs. There are also many interactable objects, such as clay mounds and fireplaces, that, when activated, drop items that can be used in cooking recipes.

In contrast to Animal Crossing, there is no combat in Wytchwood, but the witch can still be injured by hostile creatures, even if the majority of them are friendly. Each enemy has a weak point, which is typically a craftable item, against which they are vulnerable, such as unveiling powders or sleeping potions. When it is used on them, they can drop items that can be used in other recipes, which is an important part of the puzzle and crafting process that players must figure out on their journeys through the game.

Is there anything that makes Wytchwood resemble Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley?
It has been a long time since Animal Crossing's primary focus has been on resource gathering and management. When bells were first invented, the only ways to make them were to collect fruit, catch bugs and fish, dig up fossils, and sell them to Tom Nook in order to pay off that pesky mortgage. While foraging isn't a major focus in Stardew Valley, there are crafting facilities for the farm that are. In addition, players who enjoy Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Stardew Valley are likely to be on the lookout for more quiet crafting games with meditative gameplay, and Wytchwood is likely to satisfy that itch for them.

In contrast to Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, Wytchwood focuses a little more on the storytelling aspect of the game than either of those games, which at their core feature open-ended gameplay and allow players to do whatever they want with their characters. Players can still progress in various ways throughout Stardew Valley, such as through courtship and marriage, whereas Animal Crossing is more about decorating than it is about progressing, though crafting is still a significant part of the game's overall progression. For its part, Wytchwood incorporates its crafting and puzzles into its quests, making it the game's central premise, which culminates in a lighthearted gothic fairy tale.
